garment print methods.

DTF printing:

DTF (Direct To Film) involves printing your design directly onto a film and then transferring it to a garment made of cotton, polyester, or their blends, regardless of their colour, as it can work with white ink.

A great advantage of this technique is that the white ink layer is printed simultaneously as the coloured ink. This feature makes it a very simple alternative compared to other methods such as white toner.

DTF has the advantage over general heat transfer vinyl as it is printed to and released from a film rather than being cut from a vinyl which needs to then be weeded (removing excess negative material). Speeding up the preparation process and allowing much smaller and intricate lines to be transfered.

Print touch and finish: DTF has a slightly “plastic” finish, very similar to HTV or screen print transfers. However, the inks are very elastic, which prevents the print from cracking when the garment is stretched. With DTG printing, the ink is completely absorbed into the garment, resulting in a much finer finish and better integration with the fabric.

SUBLIMATION printing:

Sublimation printing uses heat to essentially bring ink and fabric together as one.

First, a design is printed onto special paper. The inks that are used turn into gas when brought under heat, then combine with the fabric and permanently print onto the fabric. The effects are permanent and less prone to fading, as the ink is embedded in the fabric or substrate rather than simply laying on top like a normal print.

The result is a permanent, full colour image that won’t crack, peel or wash away from the substrate.

This quick and effective digital print method is growing in popularity for smaller batch orders and those designs that rely on the details. Sublimation printing is also known as ‘all over printing’ as it allows you to choose a design that can literally go from seam to seam.

DTG printing:

DTG (Direct to Garment) printing is a modern digital printing technique now available here at VT Prints. A great process allowing high-quality, full-color designs to be printed directly onto garments.

It offers more flexibility than screen printing in terms of quantities, colour variation and turn-around time. We are able to offer full colour printing onto all colours of fabric.

Fast turnaround:

With DTG printing, a print can be run off very quickly after saving the design.

Other more traditional types of printing such as Screen Printing can take a long time to setup as you are required to create the individual mesh-screens prior to printing. DTG printing just requires the file, the printer and you're off!
