DTG (Direct to Garment) printing

DTG (Direct to Garment) printing is a modern digital printing technique now available here at VT Prints. A great process allowing high-quality, full-color designs to be printed directly onto garments. Have a read below to see the benefits of DTG.

What does DTG mean in printing?

DTG stands for "Direct-to-Garment" printing. It is a digital

printing method that involves using specialized inkjet printers to print designs directly onto

garments, such as t-shirts, hoodies, or bags. Unlike traditional printing methods like screen

printing, DTG printing does not require separate screens for each color. Instead, the printer

applies the ink directly to the fabric, resulting in high-quality, full-color prints with intricate

details.

Detailed and Vibrant Prints:

DTG printing can reproduce intricate designs, gradients, and

vibrant colors with exceptional detail. It offers a wide color gamut, allowing for accurate color

representation and vibrant prints that stand out.

Small Order Quantity:

Unlike traditional printing methods like screen printing, DTG

printing does not require large order quantities. This makes it ideal for small runs or

custom one-off prints. Whether you need a single custom t-shirt or a small batch, DTG printing

allows for flexibility in printing quantities.

Quick Turnaround Time:

DTG printing is a relatively fast printing method. The process involves

direct printing without the need for additional setup or color separation, which can save

significant time compared to traditional printing methods. This makes it suitable for urgent or

time-sensitive orders.

Versatility and Design Freedom: DTG printing allows for the printing of complex designs,

including photographs, intricate artwork, and detailed graphics. It offers flexibility in printing on

various fabric types, including cotton, blends, and some synthetic materials. This versatility

opens creative possibilities and allows for personalized and unique designs.

Soft and Comfortable Prints:

DTG prints result in a soft feel on the garment, as the ink is directly

absorbed into the fabric fibers. This creates a more comfortable and breathable finish

compared to some other printing techniques, such as heat transfers or vinyl printing.

Environmentally Friendly:

DTG printing is considered an eco-friendlier printing method

compared to traditional methods like screen printing, which can generate more waste. DTG

printing typically uses water-based inks, which are less harmful to the environment, and the

process does not require excessive cleanup or chemical usage.

Cost-Effective for Complex Designs:

DTG printing is cost-effective for designs with multiple

colors or intricate details. Unlike screen printing, which may require separate screens and

setups for each color, DTG printing can reproduce complex designs with many colors in a single

pass, reducing setup costs and making it a cost-effective option for detailed prints.

Does DTG printing last long?

The longevity of DTG prints can vary depending on several factors,

including the quality of the printer, inks used, fabric type, and care given to the printed

garment. When done correctly, DTG prints can be durable and long-lasting. However, it's

important to note that DTG prints may not be as resistant to fading or wear as some other

printing methods, such as screen printing or embroidery. The specific fabric type and care

instructions provided by the printer or manufacturer should be followed to maximize the

lifespan of the DTG prints.
